26 February 2021 Photo Hunt - Delicious

Now this was an easy word to find photos for!

Tiffin, purchased from Seasons Bakery, Ingleton, on our way to
Ribblehead; can't wait until we are allowed to drive there.

Also looking forward to be able to go out for a hot chocolate
with marshmallows etc etc!  Of course with a piece of cake
too (Hawes Creamery 2014).

Luckily I can bake; I've been baking/cooking all my life.  So here are a few delicious bakes I recently made.  Recipes are located on the separate Recipes page, at the top left just below the as shown below.

Booths Gin Tea Loaf; easy-peasy to make and so light and fluffy.
Freezes well.

Maple syrup flapjack - a new recipe for me and I'd make it again.
Freezes well.

Cheesy oaty slice.  Freezes well.

Finally fresh salmon steaks on a bed of seasonal vegetables
with puy lentils and a small amount of vegetable stock.

We do not starve in our house!

Now I'm not the only one who thinks food is delicious.

The other day whilst out walking we watched this seagull
stamping on the spot.  Click here to see a short video,
with apologies for the non-steadiness of it as it was very windy!
We did see it peck at something tasty....  glad I'm not a seagull!

Off back to Hawthorn's blog (click here) to see how you have interpreted Delicious!

Bye!

19 February 2021 Photo Hunt - Unexpected

To begin with I was struggling to find something suitable and then a few days later I had so many 'unexpected' photos that I had to limit myself (and spare you)!

Imagine pulling into a roadside cafe and finding this parked there....

What a monster.

We have a tow hitch on our truck but sadly we had to
leave it behind!  I would have loved to have seen the vehicle
that took it away.  We called in a few days later and it was gone.

Looks like someone has had all the fuel!

A Barn Owl hunting.

Driving home and we see the local sparrowhawk
perched on the wall at the front of our house.

What a treat!  We have ice sculptures in the trench I dug
up at our fields; never seen this before but then it has been
rather cold recently.

I loved how the ice had built up on the rush stem.
I took many photos and when the warmer weather
came they soon disappeared.

An unexpected good photo of Bob.  We never know if he will appear so it is a great treat to see him.

Driving past a local reservoir yesterday and wow, they have
cut down a lot of the trees.

Another part of the same local reservoir, now lacking trees.

Well, I'm off to see what everyone else is posting.  Click here to return to Hawthorn's post.

Bye!

12 February 2021 Photo Hunt - Starts with a W

Thanks Hawthorn for keeping my brain in working order.  It's that time of the week again. Is it me or is every week full of Fridays?  Click here to see who else is taking part.

So the word is Starts with a W.  I had a few minutes of hard thinking and then it came to me WALKING.

We do some walking, not serious fell/mountain/day walking, just ambles around our village or other interesting places.  So here is a small (!!!) collection of things that caught my eye during our walks over the past 7 years.  Not in any particular order!

We helped a lady escort mum and family across a busy road into a field with a water course in it/

Spotted on a local walk.

Always something of interest when you walk by a canal.

Love the ears!  Again on a local walk.  Hawthorn you will recognise them.

Nice!

Time for a family siesta.

This was taken 6 years ago, not this week!

I love stone walls.

From a walk round Grimwith Reservoir.  I can recommend this
4 mile walk.

Cute; but thankfully I don't think it is the spitting variety.

Spotted on our local walk; as we got there we saw the recovery
truck drive past so we waited and had some free
entertainment.  It is quite a steep slope up to the houses
and the tarmac is heavily scarred.

Our local, long and picturesque ford.  Since I took
the picture the ford has been 'improved' (ruined...)
and I keep my fingers crossed that time will
return it to a more nature-friendly place.
I also think there will be no funds
for those-who-know-better to come and 'maintain' it.....
Rant over!

A lovely kissing gate on the footpath.  I like the upright
slabs of stone.  There were quite a few along this walk
(Crosshills area I believe).

We got to the gap in the wall before the horse did!
No drama but you can never tell.

Dipper.

By the canal again.

Mid-day siesta.

By the canal; as we approached it hopped back into
the garden that backed onto the canal.

I'll leave you now and go and see what other people have chosen for Starts with a W.

Bye!

5 February 2021 Photo Hunt - Lovely Memory

Another week, another photo hunt challenge.  Thanks Hawthorn.  Click here to see the other contributors.

Advance notice - I've more than one lovely memory....

I have been attending Agricultural Shows long before I had a digital camera (first one 2002?).  I've so many memories of attending them, all the more so after I started to exhibit in various categories.  I've been exhibiting at the shows at Keighley, Burnley, Otley and Trawden.  Laterly I only supported our local show at Trawden.  It was a long day as I used to be a Steward as well.  I no longer do this having 'retired'  in about 2010.  I enjoyed taking part and winning the occasional rosette!

Here is my box of rosettes.  All put away when we moved here.
I've got them out as I have a cunning plan to use them
in a craft project; you will have to wait and see if
I am successful.  I don't want to throw them away.

So what did I exhibit????

Baking, here a Date and Walnut loaf.

A piece of hand-made felt; it comes out every Christmas.

Egg contents...  yes you take a whole egg to the show,
the judge breaks it open and the freshness etc
are judged.  Once I won first prize but I can't find
the photo.  I was very pleased as I
'beat' the chap who usually wins every class!

Preserves.

Quilt - this one was made from donated scraps and it is still one
of my favourite quilts, double bed size.  All hand quilted too.

The above is only a small selection of my exhibits but I've decided not to bore you with them all!

Whilst looking for another Show photo I came across these.
Scanned from a camera print so the quality is poor.

Our female goose with her 7 newly hatched goslings.
Mr Gander on guard.  They had goslings for quite a
number of years.

This is from another year.  We made a pond for them
and it always seemed to be my job to clean it out!

Well thanks for allowing me to share these memories.

Here's to next week.

Bye!
