30 April 2021 Photo Hunt - Bubbles

Well it's Friday and that means I'd better get this post organised!  I had to wait until yesterday before I could source my last photo.  My poor brain has had to work a lot as my original idea was not going to happen!

This must have been taken by the little girl's mum in July
2003 when she and I were blowing bubbles; I stumbled
across this photo and I think I can recall the event,
18 years ago....

These remind me of bubbles encased in ice.....  hope you think
so too!  From February 2021 in a little trench at our fields.

On a walk with a friend this week at our local nature park and I
did hope I might find some bubbles!  Yes I did.

Here are a few more.

Remember this chocolate bar?  With all the bubbles?
I had to go out and buy a bar (well a pack of three..)!!

Click here to read more about the history of Aero.

Yes, I felt the bubbles melt!

As usual, thanks Astrid and I'll be regularly checking with you to see who else has contributed and what brilliant ideas they have!

Bye!

23 April 2021 Photo Hunt - Earth

When I started to think about EARTH I realised there was a lot of possibilities.  Sadly I've never been on a space flight so I do not have a photo of the Earth.....

So let's see what I have decided to include.

A quilt I made for Project Linus, after I'd re-scaled
the pattern called Autumn Braid, a Cosy Quilts
design I saw on Donna Jordan's YouTube
tutorial pattern.  I hope you can see the
earth tones in the background fabric!

For the back I used an earth-coloured
zebra-type fleece print.

Do you  use the expression 'What on earth was I ....'???  Well I did say this several times earlier this year!

Early December 2020, we had the base for the new greenhouse
laid.  They took away a lot of the 'soil' and offered to take more
but I said there was no need to.  What on earth was I thinking???

Towards the end of March this year I made a start on moving
this pile of 'earth'; an interesting term since it contained clay,
bits of broken glass, stones, metal bits, roots (including
nasty bamboo which I thought I'd killed off), other weeds etc.
It was also not quite dry so was heavy to move.  I dealt
with it by putting a small amount (without weeds etc) into
my bucket, carrying to where I needed it and emptying
the bucket.  I could not use a wheelbarrow as it was
not possible to get a wheelbarrow to where I wanted
the earth....   I did a bit every day.

About a week later, it has all been 'moved'....
Never again as I'm getting too old for these games!

Well, once more thanks to Astrid and I'm off to see how others have interpreted this week's word.

As an afterthought, yesterday 22 April was Earth day!

Bye!

16 April Photo Hunt - The Colour Purple

Golly gosh it's Friday again....  my week seems to have more than one Friday in it as it is often Friday....

Ah the colour purple, one of my favourite colours, after red, black and white!

I'm only going to share a few photos with you as I could have gone on 'for ever'...

The following plants are from my previous garden.

Primula viallii, sadly a short-lived plant for me.

My parent hellebore which did move with me to our new home
but I can't find a photo of it here ....

Fritillary, possibly Persica.  Again short-lived!

Cobaea scandens, living in my polytunnel as a
half-hardy annual.

A type of allium, christophi perhaps.

I once had a small collection of these lovely auriculas
but gave them away shortly before we moved here.

Rheum palmatum, the purple one!  It grows from nothing at the start of the season to be about
2 m+ wide and over 2 m tall.  It is a great plant if you have room for it to spread its
leaves.  I call my main plant Gloria and when we moved here I brought 7 or 8 pieces
with me.  So far they have all survived, some better than others.  Last year a late frost
damaged the emerging flower stalks so I had no flowers.  Fingers crossed this
does not happen again!

Its flower spike that can be 2 m (or more) tall.

Of course, I don't limit myself to purple in the garden.

Persian tiles, crochet blanket.

A largely purple blanket for the cat rescue charity.

Thanks Astrid for this week's word.  I'm off to check regularly for new participants.  Please click here to return to her page.

Bye!

9 April 2021 Photo Hunt - Farm

Hello everyone.  It's Friday once more.  Another week has slipped by....

My original idea for this week's photo did not happen so it was time to put my thinking hat on again and move to Plan B.

For months we've watched this huge, new farm building emerge from the ground.
There are now cows living inside.  I dread to think how much it cost to build.

Beloved thinks this is an old Zetor tractor.  It looks so sad
but possibly beyond restoration.

Red ants farming the pears on our pear tree.  The pheasants
pecked them first and then I noticed the ants!

Another definition of farm is to farm out, ie get someone to do a job for you.  One of my friends is part of the 400 Roses dancing troupe.  Click here to see them in action.  It is a fusion of tribal belly dance and Morris formations.  So back in October 2014 my 400 Roses friend presented me with a black waistcoat and asked could I embellish it, using my imagination and following their colours.  She gave me a few paper roses.

The front.

The back.  She was so happy with it.  I even used needle punch
to make the 400 Roses motif on the back.

Was I allowed to rest?  No!

Gloves were needed next....  December 2014.

Back in 2018 I was asked if I could make her some gloves; it was my fault as I sent her, without thinking, the following photo.

I should have known better as I was asked to make
her a similar pair.....

Here they are, not finished or sewn up.

Someone modeled them for me but they were not
properly sewn up.  Sadly I forgot to take a photo
when they were finished.

In a recent email from her, she mentioned that she might have some 'jobs' for me once we are allowed to meet up.  No idea what these are!

Sorry if I've rambled on a bit!  Once again click here to return to Astrid's photo hunt page. I'm looking forward to seeing your interpretations of the word FARM.  Until next week,

Bye!

2 April 2021 Photo Hunt - Chocolate

Well Astrid, what a good word to start your Photo Hunt journey with.  I like chocolate, yum, yum, yum!

A search of my archives has not produced any chocolate goodies I have made over the years but then my brain cell work up.  It's nearly Easter and I have chocolates!!!

Look what my Quilting friend gave me
recently.  She introduced me to quilting
in about 1993 ish...  I've not opened them yet!

I bought these myself and yes I've
opened them; sadly I can't hang them
on my tree as they would melt!

The next day I was thinking about the word chocolate and thought of the colour chocolate.

It's sort of a chocolate colour....

And so is this recent visitor to our kitchen doors.

Mrs Brown!  She is chocolate coloured with other bits added, eg,
white chocolate chips.....

Ah well, I can't wait to see what the other chocolate offerings are going to be.  Please click here to return to Astrid's post and she who else has joined in.

Thanks Astrid for taking over the reins; I'll try to behave.

Bye!
