July 2018 Photo Hunt

Gosh, I nearly missed the deadline this month.  I had all my photos organised but forgot to edit them until a few days ago!  Anyway I made it and this is what I have to offer you.

1   Door

I had the opportunity to re-visit Parcevall Hall (click here to read about it) and re-called my
first visit back in 1984 ish; I was taken there and after we parked we walked up to
this door.  Once it was opened, it was magical.  Sadly on my visit recently
it was a misty day but it was still a good day out!

2   11 am

All ready for my coffee; a bit later than usual but what the heck!  Should I read or crochet?
Certainly the Mars bar will be consumed.  This is my favourite seat, sitting on a chair
covered with a quilt I made years ago, overlooking the garden and waiting to
see what little birds come to the feeders.  Magic!

3  Texture

Stachys lanata aka Lambs Lugs!  A new plant for my new garden.  I have seen this plant
in many gardens and more recently when I visited Salts Mill.  There was a big border
planted up with this plant and there were loads of bees!  So one I had to buy
and buy I did from a charity stall at Skipton Church a few weeks ago.

4   Shadow(s)

We were out walking recently when Beloved pointed out the sheep were following
us (me and my shadow to be precise!

5   View

We paid a flying visit to Grimwith Resevoir recently and this is the stunning
view from the earth dam top.  Click here to read more about
Grimwith Reservoir.  If you can go, I recommend it; a nice, gently walk,
no cafe but toilets and free parking!

6   Own Choice

Oh dear ...  how I hesitated about showing another duckling photo...  so apologies if you are sick of them but I just could not resist!

A few days ago Mrs D and 7 ducklings called in for a snack.  We gave them some
wheat outside and then we were busy at the other end of the kitchen.  I became aware of
'louder' duckling noises and we went to investigate.  Obviously we'd not
given them enough wheat and they had hopped over the patio
door threshold into the kitchen to inform us of the poor service
they were receiving!  After they went outside (without making a mess), more
wheat was given to them.  I just happened to look at the kitchen clock
and it was 11 am.....

PS I shared this photo with a non-blogging friend and her comment was
Open All Hours

Love it.

Well, that's it for another month.  Now I will and see Hawthorn's link page to see who else is joining in.  I check this page several times over the following week to ensure I see everyone.  Thanks to Hawthorn for organising us all!  Click here to see who else has joined in.

  1. A goodly selection once again :) I chuckled with your open all hours images, the Grimworth Reservoir image is lovely - I liked the way the water was 'contained' in that large man made leat then released and wiggly once back in nature - a good contrast, the three stepped roof added to the charm. My favourite? 11am - I know that window, the quilt, your view - and yes I can see why it is your favourite seat x

    1. That chair gets a lot of use! Just left it now after lunch. It was only your comment that made me have another look at my View photo again. Now I can see the lovely 3 roof lines!

    1. My Beloved keeps saying 'Haven't you go enough photos of the ducklings?'. I'll keep taking them while I can. Took some more today....

  3. Great selection M. Aah, Parceval Hall and it's "exquisite" gardens, somewhere I was absolutely enchanted with when we visited many years ago. Love those ducklings & I know I've not seen them before, so no worries there. The Lamb's Ears are so velvety and I know somewhere in the next suburb, where I should be able collect a few for my garden, which I keep saying I'm going to do (giggle) & haven't yet. Thanks for sharing & take care.

    1. Might have to get myself back to Parcevall Hall but in a different season to last time. Don't think I'll go this year as I don't want to see dead gardens with all the dry weather we are experiencing.

  4. All your photos are lovely. Great to have the ducklings visit and I like your friend's quote. I love your photos for door and view and your 11a.m. break looks as if it would be very cosy:)

    1. Thanks Fil. I've only got a point and shoot camera and have never understood about aperture etc etc. So my photos are just 'lucky' ones. I've had another look at the View one and am thinking it is quite good! So glad you like the ducklings. They came for their breakfast today but it was raining so I could not step outside in my socks....

  6. I'm guessing from the style and layout you are looking at the QGBI magazine? Your quilt is stunning, love the colours.
Impressed that Mama Duck still has 7 babies, they are such dreadful mothers and so often only 2 or 3 get to that size. Brilliant that you managed to photograph their visit.

    1. Well done eagle eyes! It is indeed the latest QGBI magazine. The quilt was made from a batik jelly roll. I think I made it before I had a digital camera so that is pre 2000. It is beginning to fade as that seat gets a lot of sunshine but as least I am using it!

  7. Your crafting/reading spot looks nice and cosy, the quilt is gorgeous.
Love the view through the open door.

    1. I can't stress how good I find my reading spot; I do sometimes craft whilst sitting here but mostly it is reading! It is raining today (good for the garden but bad for me!) so I might be spending a bit longer in that chair today!

  9. Yes the view is taken from the dam wall, with the reservoir and valve tower behind. The ducklings were very well behaved and did not make a mess. Glad you liked my photos.

    1. Another vote for the view picture! I used to keep chickens (for about 30 years) but when we moved I decided it was no longer feasible to have any. I miss them (but not the work!) and I take pleasure is seeing other people's chickens!
