Here are my dry (mostly!) photos for this month's photo hunt; thanks again to Hawthorn (click here to see her photos) for keeping my brain ticking over.
1 Mark
A friend is re-modelling their kitchen; a monster task.
One of the first jobs was to build up the brick surround to the
solid fuel stove and use this lovely stone at the top.
It does have an interesting mark in it.
We've no idea what it means! Do you?
2 Duck(s)
Sadly we've had no ducklings visiting this year. But I did bring out their pond
and here is someone enjoying the clean water. It does not stay clean for long!
3 Window
Years ago we stumbled across Pendragon Castle, a ruin but what a delightful
place. Click here to read about it. There was just us and a few
sheep; so wonderful not to contend with hordes of people....
Lots of windows but this one caught my eye.
4 Arm
This is the story of the steering arm on Beloved's Zetor tractor.
It kept getting bent....
Picture 1 shows how bent it was.
Pictures 2 and 3 show Beloved straightening it, after he'd
had to do some welding to strengthen it.
Picture 4 shows it back in place and since then (14 years ago!)
it has been fine.....
5 Straw
I have discovered the delights of making raspberry gin!
Click here to see the recipe I use.
I tried using a straw to drink it but soon gave up!
I drink it 'neat' without tonic or ice!
6 Own choice
I have a good stash of fabrics...... For years I've fancied making a
quilt using the Disappearing Nine patch pattern. Here it is!
It was fun to make and I was able to use up quite a bit of my stash
and experiment with machine quilting. It will be given to a Project
Linus lady later this year. Click here to read about Project Linus.
I will be making more quilts for them; I don't need any more quilts but there
are lots of patterns and techniques I would like to try so making them
for Project Linus is the way to go; I get lots of fun and someone gets a quilt.
Well, that's another month done; will September's weather be better????
I love Pendragon castle too, sadly I don't think it is open to the public now as it has become too unsafe for people to visit. I love that mark, how intriguing but no idea what it means!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt, I have heard of project linus such a lovely project, it is so generous.
I too hope that Septembers weather will be a little better!
I'm not surprised Pendragon Castle is closed. It looked precarious when we visited years ago. Thanks for letting me know.
DeleteLovely pictures again. Favourite?? The quilt, or the gin, no maybe the window.....it has to be the duck in his own private swimming pool. What a hoot!!! xx
ReplyDeleteI've put the duck pond away now. But roll on next year! Sorry I made it hard for you to select a favourite photo.
DeleteWow that looks to be a complicated pattern - tried to work out why it is called the Disappearing NINE ??!
ReplyDeleteLove your paddling pool companion :)
thank you for joining in xx
It's an easy quilt pattern as I don't do hard! Basically you sew 9 squares together, but in half horizontally and vertically, move the 4 pieces about and re-sew back to a square. I did this 12 times and then joined the blocks together....
DeletePS it's called Disappearing Nine Patch as the original 9 fabric patches have 'disappeared '
DeleteI love your window photo, Pendragon Castle sounds like somewhere I'd like to explore, though a name like that makes me think it should be in Wales. The raspberry gin looks good, red is may favourite colour too but I don't drink :( My favourite has to be the duck in his own private pool though :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the duck is most people's favourite photo. I do agree that Pendragon Castle should be in Wales.
DeleteGood set of photos for the hunt. The duck in the pool is cute. Your quilt looks lovely & it's a technique I should try. Love the window. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHi. Disappearing Nine Patch is easy! Lots of ideas on Google images and YouTube. Another vote for the duck!
DeleteI love that stove area! Such a cool window picture, shame you can no longer visit. Raspberry gin? Sounds like something I might have to try. Your quilt is lovely, even better that you want to make more for the Linus project.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Do try the raspberry gin..... I think I've just made my 7th batch..... I suspect future Photo hunt pictures will include Project Linus quilts! I am having so much fun trying new techniques.
DeleteThanks John. I do hope you can get to walk round Pendragon Castle; it is an enchanting place but in quite a poor condition so wear a hard hat! I'd forgotten about the old riddle! Thanks for reminding me; at the moment, like Picaso, I'm in my red, white and black period.
