September 2019 Photo Hunt

Hello everyone; it's that time again.

Once more Hawthorn has had my brain cell working overtime but I've managed to prepare 6 photos!  So here we go.

1   Cosy

My cosy, striped leggings I made (crochet) a couple of years ago.
Hope you like the 'garter' I added at the top!
Come the cooler weather (and it has started to arrive)
I wear them a lot.

2  Changing Foliage

I was spoilt for choice with this word.  But you can't beat a Virginia Creeper at this time of year.

3  Scarf

I follow Lucy from Attic24; she is one of the organisers for Yarndale.
Each year she asks her followers to make something; this year it is to knit
or crochet a teddy bear for the Mercy Ships.  Each one needs a SCARF.
Click here to read about this on her blog.  Click here to read more about
the Mercy Ships.  She is also going to put a photo of each teddy bear
on Pinterest.  Click here to see them.

My attempt was made using the crochet pattern.  So far I can't see him
on her Pinterest boards but I know she has received more bears
than she anticipated!  My friend has knitted about 20!!!
It took me ages to make just the one so I did not make any more.

We are both off to Yarndale on Saturday 28 September (tomorrow) and we
hope to see our bears there.

4  Baking

Years ago when  I did a lot of  bread making, I made some
Saffron buns.  They froze well and were yummy!

5  Cobweb

Well I've seen hundreds of cobwebs.  They are everywhere.  Some I find by walking into them!  Quite a lot have a spider in the middle!  It's been good to watch a spider make/repair a web.

Not sure what the 'lunch' is but the spider (in its cobweb) was busy preparing
it for storage.  Not my idea of lunch....

6  Own Choice

Well I've had a lot of photos that came under this heading; I think I'll save some for another time.

Another quilt made for Project Linus.  I had made the top 2 stars back in 2011
and the bottom left and centre stars also in 2011 on a day course I attended.
They have been in storage since then waiting for inspiration.  It came to me a few weeks ago.
I could make them 'fit' together and I just needed to make the bottom right block.
What fun I've been having; I am doing simple machine quilting and also
attaching the outer binding using the sewing machine.  It's not perfect
but it allows me to improve my techniques whilst producing a quilt
a young child or teenager might like.

I used a fleece for the backing.  It is soft and cosy too.

Once more thank you Hawthorn.  My brain is just about ready for the next set of words!

  1. Wow, those leggings are something. I read about the teddies this morning but haven't looked yet so will look for yours later. My favourite would have to be your quilt, though the buns look yummy, but not the spider's lunch. Enjoy Yarndale & wish I could be there.

    1. Thanks Susan. I thought you might like the quilt! My friend sent me an email this morning to say her teddies are on board 17. I think their scarf matches their trousers. I'll have another look for mine later today if I have time!

  2. Those leggings are very jazzy!
Enjoy Yarndale. My friends have a stall there. They make ceramic buttons and tile tags and are called Tile productions. Have fun. X

    1. I will look out for your friends' stall tomorrow. I do like to drool over buttons.... I tell my friends my leggings are bright so if I fall into a snow drift they can easily find me and pull me out!

    1. Thanks for your comments. I prefer crochet to knitting as there is only one stitch to worry about!

    1. Today leaves are falling off the trees almost non-stop. Autumn is here. Glad you like my quilt. It was a challenge to do but I enjoyed putting the bits together and knowing someone will like it and use it.

  5. I love those leg warmers, they are a great colour and they do indeed look so cosy. Your cobweb picture is amazing, you managed to get so close to the spider, they are amazing aren't they although like you I would not want they are having for lunch!

I have made those saffron buns before for St Lucia Day in December, they are so delicious.

    1. Yarndale was good! I wore my leggings. There were at least 1807 teddy bears there; some arriving today. Check out Attic24 blog over the next few days to read about the teddies. I was lucky enough to talk to Lucy and asked her to blog about the teddy bears' destinations.

  9. Oh, memories of leg warmers! I love yours, they look great. I love the bear, what a wonderful project to be a part of. That spider is amazing, he looks like he's giving you a dirty look for watching him! Your quilt is beautiful and could also count as cosy!

    1. Thanks for the generous comments! The 1807 plus teddies I saw at Yarndale yesterday were wonderful. All that love used to make them that will be passed on to the children. Perhaps next month's words will allow me to use the picture I took of them.
I never thought of my quilt for cosy...
