2 July 2021 Photo Hunt - Sparkle

Another hard word for me but then I had a few ideas!

A broach I made with yarn that already had sparkly beads on it.

I decided to make a Mosaic shawl for myself but every bead

had to be feed onto the yarn just when it was needed

as I thought this would be easier than threading them all on

at the start.  I used a split needle as the hole in the bead

was tiny!

Bead on.

Bead incorporated into the crochet work.

Hopefully you can see the beads!

Finished shawl.  

Finally a female duck with some of her 8 little ones in the river at the bottom of our

garden.  Hope you can see the sparkly water as the ducklings move vigorously.

25 June 2021 Photo Hunt - Summer

Well, the word Summer has proved to be the hardest word I've had to sort out photos for!

Summer has no special meaning for me.  We don't go away other than a day out (which we do throughout the year anyway).  But I do appreciate the days getting longer, hopefully for fine weather so I can play outside.  June this year has been lovely, whereas May was very miserable.  If someone were to say here are tickets for a free holiday/cruise/whatever, I'd say no thanks!  I'd rather be at home doing my own thing.

I get a lot of joy from gardening so I thought I'd share some pictures with you.  I don't need to go far to be happy!

I believe this is Hosta June.

I love poppies.

Sweet peas from another year; this year's have

yet to flower but buds are appearing.

Poppy with a friendly bee; I do have lots of bees in my garden.

A hive bee?

Geranium palmatum in all its glory.  I love my

hardy Geraniums.

Let's not forget the butterflies what visit too.

We moved here in 2015 and every year a Mallard female duck has brought

her brood into the garden.  This was taken in 2018 when I had the pleasure

of seeing them grow up.  Yes, that's my foot, getting walked over with

wet feet but I loved it.  Sadly this year there have been no ducklings

visiting and I think it might be too late for them.  I have seen some

in the beck that flows under our bridge which was good to see.

Well, I'll not bore you with hundreds of pictures of the 2018 ducklings or my many plants.  I am happy to be at home!

So I'll return to Astrid's page and see how you interpret summer.

18 June 2021 Photo Hunt - Flag

I think it's Friday again!  Initially when I saw this word I thought of the bunting in my new greenhouse but I suspect you're bored with that so I had to do a lot of thinking and this is what I've come up with.

The flag base for the new greenhouse, 20' x 20'.

flag base.  Ooops, I've mentioned the greenhouse again.

Outside the kitchen window I have a small garden shed and between this shed and the garden/greenhouse there was a muddy area.  It was originally planted up but I removed them soon after we moved here.  Once the greenhouse had been erected this muddy area was really muddy and I was getting a bit fed-up picking my way carefully across it, all the more so since I slipped on it in late September 2018 and broke my wrist....  I did not want to repeat this event.  So I came up with a plan, a temporary one until we decide what to do at the back of the house.  

When the greenhouse base was laid, the workmen had to take up some flags and these were stacked around the garden.  Added to that we also had brought some half flags here with a view to doing a job but we changed our minds.  So all these flags were available and in my way.  So I used them!  Be warned it is a rough and ready job!

My laid flags!  I had to dig off the soil/grass/weeds and then walk the flags into position.

Most needed leveling with stones/slate.  But at least I don't have to walk in the mud.

Yes, they are just laid on the bare ground.
