28 May Photo Hunt - Music

And it's Friday again.  Once more I'm joining in with Astrid; click here to see what others have posted.

It's going to be a short post from me this week.  I don;t play a musical instrument nor sing!  When we moved here (just over 6 years ago) we brought the stereo equipment with us but it's never been unpacked.  I rarely listen to music as I can't concentrate on what else I might be doing.  I hate being out in the garden and have to listen to other people's music wafting around.  Even my DVD/CD player on my PC is not working at the moment so even if I wanted music on, I can't but I don't miss it.

So I struggled a bit with this one and then an image of my latest Project Linus quilt came to mind.

Here is it; it's called Flutterby; click here if
you are interested in making it.

So why am I showing it to you?  Because the outer border is called Piano keys, hence my music link!

I'm in the process of attaching the black border but
I've not taken a photo yet.

That's all from me this week.  Take care.

Bye!

21 May 2021 Photo Hunt - Rain

Well, this week's word RAIN was so easy to find photos for.  We live in an area that can best be described as damp.  Even as I prepare this post, it is raining...   sigh.

So let me show you some of my rain photos!

We live in the area marked A.  Never mind, we do have some lovely countryside!

Driving out in the rain recently I saw the above cloud
and hoped it was not going to be a tornado....

I think you'll agree it is raining hard...

Whilst not actually raining on us as we drive along, the
'strings' hanging down from the cloud are rain.

Still raining.....

At home we've had several hail showers instead of rain.
There was a sleeping duck by the kitchen door but the hail
work him up and he was not pleased!

We have yet to sort out the garden nearest the house but as a
temporary measure I've put these flags down to keep me
out of the mud; a bit of rain and pools of water soon
appear by the flags.

But rain does not stop me working in GCHQ!

Putting up bunting in the rain!

We pass this bridge regularly; after a lot of rain and the river
is up, the water roars over the top of the weir.  To the left
of this photo some grass has been caught on a metal spike;
it now stretches at least 5' down.

At the bottom of the garden I can see across the river that
flows there to a white mark.  One day I hope to get to it and
measure its height, to give me an idea as to how high
the water is when it thunders past.

Here is a close-up of said white mark.

Do you remember Boxing Day 2015 in the UK?  There was
a lot of rain/flooding etc.  This photo was taken in June 2020
when you can just see the top of the white mark.  In December
2015 the water was much higher!

I keep an eye on the Government's river level indicator for out river; you can see it got
quite high!  As an aside, this event damaged our access bridge to our house.
We finally had it repaired last year!  Perhaps if there is a suitable word in
the future I can share a few photos with you!

Well that's my lot for this week.  Thanks to Astrid for hosting this and as usual click here to return to her blog and see who else has joined it.

Bye!

14 May 2021 Photo Hunt - Mirror

Great news!  It's Friday again.  So once again I'm joining in with Astrid.  It took me a little while to decide how to interpret this word, so here is what I came up with.

This is a free pattern from Donna Jordan called Mirror, Mirror.

I plan to make it but not sure if I will stick with B&W or
a more colourful one.  Click here to see her YouTube video
and if you want a copy of her free pattern, click here.
When I make it I will cut narrower strips as it will be
another Project Linus quilt.

Look at the drake's body mirrored in the water.

I made these 2 wall hangings back in December 2009.
They are a rough mirror image.

The waterfall on the left is mirrored by the one on the right,
well almost!

Spotted this whilst out walking in June 2018, a place called
Teapot Dam where my Beloved used to visit as a child....

This cute, little mirror was given to me by my
quilting Guru; you can see the name of my
camera in the mirror, but backwards!
I'm holding it for scale.

All cute, on its own.

Finally I had to include these 2 Coot chicks,
with their little bodies mirrored in the water.

Well, that's all folks.  Now I'm off to see your lovely photos.

Bye!

7 May 2021 Photo Hunt - Space

Hello again.  We've had very unseasonal weather (hail, almost snow, high winds, rains, frosts) mixed in with a bit of the warm stuff.  I'm glad I've access to various 'spaces' to match my mood and activity!

About 20 minutes' walk away is our local Nature reserve.
I often walk there and enjoy the open space;
there is always something interesting to see.

In the midst of my latest sewing project (see below)!  I could do
with more space but I'm loathe to rip out the built in furniture
as it holds a lot of my craft supplies!

We own 3 fields nearby; 2 are adjacent on one another.
Here Beloved has mowed The Avenue joining them.
During early 2020's lockdown we visited every day
and were able to enjoy our own, private and safe space.

Welcome to my Greenhouse Cafe!  Some friends were walking
past the other weekend and we offered them a brew and a
chair inside our outdoor space.  With the doors shut it
was warm.

Next week my friend plans to visit the Greenhouse Cafe.
It will become an exhibition centre too as I can show her
the Project Linus quilts I've made during lockdown; handy
since we're not allowed in each other's houses yet.
Can you see the 3 bits of bunting, my latest project?  I need to
make about 50' for the greenhouse!

Finally I espied a lamb in the adjacent field enjoying one
of my hardy geranium plants; I did not invite it into my
garden space, cheeky critter!
