12 February 2021 Photo Hunt - Starts with a W

Thanks Hawthorn for keeping my brain in working order.  It's that time of the week again. Is it me or is every week full of Fridays?  Click here to see who else is taking part.

So the word is Starts with a W.  I had a few minutes of hard thinking and then it came to me WALKING.

We do some walking, not serious fell/mountain/day walking, just ambles around our village or other interesting places.  So here is a small (!!!) collection of things that caught my eye during our walks over the past 7 years.  Not in any particular order!

We helped a lady escort mum and family across a busy road into a field with a water course in it/

Spotted on a local walk.

Always something of interest when you walk by a canal.

Love the ears!  Again on a local walk.  Hawthorn you will recognise them.

Nice!

Time for a family siesta.

This was taken 6 years ago, not this week!

I love stone walls.

From a walk round Grimwith Reservoir.  I can recommend this
4 mile walk.

Cute; but thankfully I don't think it is the spitting variety.

Spotted on our local walk; as we got there we saw the recovery
truck drive past so we waited and had some free
entertainment.  It is quite a steep slope up to the houses
and the tarmac is heavily scarred.

Our local, long and picturesque ford.  Since I took
the picture the ford has been 'improved' (ruined...)
and I keep my fingers crossed that time will
return it to a more nature-friendly place.
I also think there will be no funds
for those-who-know-better to come and 'maintain' it.....
Rant over!

A lovely kissing gate on the footpath.  I like the upright
slabs of stone.  There were quite a few along this walk
(Crosshills area I believe).

We got to the gap in the wall before the horse did!
No drama but you can never tell.

Dipper.

By the canal again.

Mid-day siesta.

By the canal; as we approached it hopped back into
the garden that backed onto the canal.

I'll leave you now and go and see what other people have chosen for Starts with a W.

Bye!

  1. What a fantastic selection of pictures taken on your Walks. Love them all. That Kissing Gate is most unusual. Your camera takes such lovely pictures. B and I were just saying we have never seen a Dipper. xx

    1. We often see the Dipper in the river/stream/brook that flows under our bridge. Quite often all I see is when it flies away... glad you liked my photos. x

  2. A lovely selection & your walks locally are definitely more interesting than ours which have become more urban over the 5 years we've lived on this side of town. I did notice one constant for W with many "walls" appearing & a "whoopsy" for the truck photo. Those ears must belong to a donkey, one of my most favourite animals. I've only seen my two(not really mine) a couple of times in the last 12 months due to Covid. Thanks for sharing, take care & stay safe. Hugs.

    1. Yes, the ears belong to a local donkey. We are lucky to live in such an interesting area, be it local walks or walks within a 30 mile radius. Can't wait until we can venture further afield for walks. x

    1. Thanks. I do like to gaze around as I walk but Beloved likes to 'get the walk done' so I have to be quick with my camera! Yes, I too like those ears.

  4. Like you we are more into a gentle amble than an energetic hill climb ... we find there is always something interesting to be found ... wherever the walk may be. We saw our first dipper this year ... it was a good excuse for resting our legs whilst have a good watch 😃

  9. Brilliant photos :). they all made me smile, especially the donkey ears - well caught. I love dry stone walls as well - they're like lace all over the countryside.

    1. I do like your comment about the dry stone walls looking like lace; lucky for us, there are plenty lacy bits to look at. Looks like the donkey's ears have made a lot of people smile!
