19 February 2021 Photo Hunt - Unexpected

To begin with I was struggling to find something suitable and then a few days later I had so many 'unexpected' photos that I had to limit myself (and spare you)!

Imagine pulling into a roadside cafe and finding this parked there....

What a monster.

We have a tow hitch on our truck but sadly we had to
leave it behind!  I would have loved to have seen the vehicle
that took it away.  We called in a few days later and it was gone.

Looks like someone has had all the fuel!

A Barn Owl hunting.

Driving home and we see the local sparrowhawk
perched on the wall at the front of our house.

What a treat!  We have ice sculptures in the trench I dug
up at our fields; never seen this before but then it has been
rather cold recently.

I loved how the ice had built up on the rush stem.
I took many photos and when the warmer weather
came they soon disappeared.

An unexpected good photo of Bob.  We never know if he will appear so it is a great treat to see him.

Driving past a local reservoir yesterday and wow, they have
cut down a lot of the trees.

Another part of the same local reservoir, now lacking trees.

Well, I'm off to see what everyone else is posting.  Click here to return to Hawthorn's post.

Bye!

  1. We drove past when they were cutting those trees down - a huge operation with traffic control, several vehicles, chippers, vans and loads of blokes etc, would liked to have watched for a while but had to make do with what we could see while we waited at the red lights.

    1. I would have happily sat in my car watching them at work; I do find tree working essential viewing!

  2. Love all your unexpected objects you found to photograph. Those ice sculptures are brilliant. We too saw those trees being cut down. I didn't know what to feel, sad that the lovely trees were being cleared out or pleased as we now had a good view of the reservoir. Lovely picture of Bob. xx

    1. I'm pleased that there will now be a better view of the reservoir, especially when the sail boats are playing out. Wish I could have seen all the action.

  3. Wow ... what a selection. Isn’t is funny how there is so much to see when we just take the time to stop and look. I love the ice sculptures ... my Facebook feed seems to have been full of them recently ... nature is just so awesome 😃

    1. Thanks! Yes I too have noticed lots of ice sculptures of FB. It was Hawthorn who, many years ago, mentioned how she looks at her surroundings and that got me thinking. So now I try to see the hidden/unusual/out of place etc objects. It's great fun.

    1. Thanks! Pity we could not stop when I saw the owl; a busy, minor road so I just had to snap and hope for the best. The icicles were such a joy to see; I'll keep an eye out to see if they ever return.

  5. I like the icicles, I think they look like upside down turnips :) My favourite is the great shot of Bob, he's lovely :)

  6. I love your first photos and am amazed at what you see sometimes on the road/roadside when travelling. All the bird photos are great as are the icy ones. Take care & hugs.

  7. We've had weird icicles too. Love the barn owl, one flew over my car at dusk the other day, a rare treat. CN x

    1. Barn owls are such a treat to see. Recently we've seen one hunting over the field in front of the house; so every time I go past a window that looks over that way I have to stop and have a look! Even the anticipation of possibly seeing one is good!
